Most asylum seekers in Ireland live in international protection housing, like direct provision. However, many IPAs are now put in emergency housing, such as hotels. You don’t have to stay in international protection housing if you want to get international protection. You can move into private housing, but you won’t be entitled to the daily expenses allowance, medical cards, or clothing allowance, etc.
Due to the housing crisis, housing in Ireland is getting more expensive and harder to find. If you want to live in private accommodation or international protection accommodation it is important you know your rights and entitlements.
